D’Arcy studied law at Otago University in Dunedin, graduating with an Honours degree in Law in 2001, being admitted to the bar in 2002. Specialising in the formation of Family Trusts, carrying out residential conveyancing work and assessing finance and mortgage requirements, D’Arcy’s proactive approach to his client’s needs, which includes an in-depth assessment of their individual risk profiles ensures his clients receive the most comprehensive and appropriate advice. “I’ve been a mortgage broker for three years and a property lawyer for 12. The thing I love most about my work is the people.” Outside work D’Arcy enjoys being outdoors, fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with his wife and their twins, Eva and Archie.
Joanna studied at Canterbury University and graduated with a double degree in law and commerce, majoring in accounting and information systems. A New Zealander of Chinese and Malaysian descent, she can communicate in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and can understand a little Foochow. Joanna has considerable experience in Residential & Commercial Conveyancing, Property Development & Subdivisions, Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Family Trusts & Asset Protection, Company Law, Commercial Leasing and Sale & Purchase of Businesses & Franchises.
In her spare time, Joanna takes pleasure in playing the piano and clarinet and has performed in many orchestras, concert bands and competitions. She also has an interest in all sports and still maintains an involvement in both basketball and table tennis. Joanna takes great delight in playing an active role fundraising for charitable organizations, helping people in need and participating in Lions Club Events.
Jane studied law at the University of Canterbury, graduating in 1985. Born and bred in Christchurch Jane enjoys practising in a law firm where client service is valued. Jane joined D’Arcy Thomson Law in November 2018 after many years as a partner in another Christchurch firm. She has had extensive legal experience particularly in conveyancing, property law, Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Trusts, Estates and Relationship Property Agreements. Jane is enthusiastic about building strong relationships with her clients and assisting them through different phases in their lives. Jane enjoys the supportive, friendly environment and team culture that is D’Arcy Thomson Law.
Outside of the office Jane enjoys reading, travel, gardening and heading away for weekends of music and sailing with her partner.
Karen began her career as a legal secretary in 1989 and developed her love of coveyancing from there. Her extensive legal knowledge encompasses Residential Conveyancing and Trusts. Karen is passionate about property and enjoys helping people with their home and Investment purchases and sales. Also ensuring along the way that her clients have their Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney are up to date and relevant to their current needs. “I aim for a very efficient, low stress experience with a few laughs along the way. I love a good chat about life and life experiences and find the diversity of the people I get to help as one of my favourite things about the job.”
Outside work Karen enjoys being with family and contributing to their sporting obsessions, socialising with friends, gardening and spending time with their family pets.
Karen is one of our Legal Executives. She qualified in 1986 and has 30 years experience in both legal and banking backgrounds. Karen has extensive experience in all aspects of property law, residential conveyancing, Wills and estate administration.
Outside of work Karen and her husband enjoy socialising with family and friends.
Tori studied law at Otago University in Dunedin, the University of Groningen, Holland and then finished up at Victoria University in Wellington. Tori was admitted to the bar in New Zealand and Western Samoa during 2002 and enjoyed the following years working as a general practioner and more recently with a specialist interest in Trust law. Tori now manages our Trust department and prides herself on providing cutting edge advice that provides the junction between your business, succession planning and relationship needs. Her holistic approach ensures the correct structure is established to enable you to protect and pass on your assets while regularly adapting to change.
Outside the office, Tori enjoys travelling, catching up with friends, snowboarding and spending time with her husband and two boys.
Tracey completed her Legal Executive studies in 2006 and has worked as a legal executive/secretary in residential conveyancing since 2007. She joined D'Arcy Thomson Law in August 2016 and enjoys being part of a small friendly team helping our clients with all aspects of conveyance.
Tracey works part time spending the rest of her time looking after her young family, enjoying a coffee or biking/walking or going to the gym when she finds the time.
Nerolene has worked in the banking industry for over 20 years, then had few years off to start a family. Nerolene returned to work assisting mortgage brokers before moving to D’Arcy Thomson Law bringing a wealth of knowledge in finance and banking.
Outside of work Nerolene’s husband and two children play an important role. Being a sporty family in all fields fills most weekends, although Nerolene still manages to fit in her love of running.
Hannah joined D’Arcy Thomson Law in November 2015 with four years legal experience. Her area of expertise is working with the trust account and trust administration. Outside of work she is a competitive football player and enjoys socialising with her friends and family.
Lisa joined D'Arcy Thomson Law in 2016 and is currently training to become a Legal Executive. She enjoys being part of the busy team and learning about all aspects of conveyance and the legal practice. Outside of work she is kept busy with a young family.
Caroline is our office/accounts manager and is involved with the day to day running of the firm. She has previously worked as an account manager in the health sector and has more recently been involved with the governance of her children’s school. She is looking forward to having contact with clients and help provide part of the friendly efficient service the firm prides itself in.
Jess joined D’Arcy Thomson Law/Loan Market in 2018. She has previously supported another Mortgage Broker, worked for a bank for several years and held PA roles prior to having a family.
Jess works part time and is studying to become a midwife. Although you might not immediately think there is a relationship between mortgage lending and midwifery Jess believes both occupations are about working with people through an important time in their life and it’s a privilege to assist them.
When not working or studying Jess is running around after our two school age boys or enjoying her latest Netflix addiction.
